How to avoid subtle sugars?

It seems like there's sugar in everything these days. How can I avoid it, especially when I'm eating out?

It's true. Sugar is in so many foods where we don't even expect it, from breakfast cereals to pasta sauces! The best way to avoid it at home is to read your food labels carefully, also paying attention for tricky alternate names for sugar, like "malto-dextrose." Yup. It's still sugar! When eating out, you just have to bite the bullet and be that person at the table who grills the waiter for information about the way things are prepared. It's your health that's at stake!
